Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced the office filed felony charges against two men for their alleged involvement in an organized ring responsible for multiple burglaries across the Kansas City metropolitan area.
Idonnas J. Gavrilys, identified by investigators as the alleged leader of the burglary operation, faces two counts of 2nd Degree Burglary, four counts of 1st Degree Burglary, and four counts of Armed Criminal Action. *
Dante K. Draper faces 17 counts of 2nd Degree Burglary, two counts of 1st Degree Burglary, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and two counts of Stealing. *
“I am incredibly proud of our newly expanded Crime Strategies Unit and the collaborative work they’ve done alongside the Kansas City Police Department’s Center Zone Property Crimes Unit, to identify and prosecute these high-impact offenders,” said Prosecutor Johnson. “CSU’s strategic focus allows us to continue holding repeat offenders accountable. This is a victory for our business community and Jackson County as a whole.”
Investigators allege that there are at least six suspects part of the organized burglary group who follow a consistent pattern when burglarizing businesses.
Both Gavrilys and Draper are being held without bond.
The investigation is ongoing.
*Charges are only accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or pleads guilty.
