A Jackson County Judge sentenced a Kansas City man to life in prison, plus 15 years, for a fatal shooting that led to an hours-long standoff, Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson announced today.
In November last year, a jury convicted Juan Maiden of 2nd Degree Murder, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 500th block of Booth Avenue on a shooting where they were informed the victim was inside the residence and shot by the defendant. Officers made entry and located the victim who had a gunshot wound to the head. Hours later, they located the defendant after a standoff.
A witness told police the defendant shot the victim unprovoked and then shot her two more times as she laid on the ground.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorney Gerald Jackson and Chief Trial Attorney Jamie Hunt prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
