A Jackson County judge late Friday sentenced Markus Hayes to 15 years in a Missouri prison for his role in the fatal shooting of 23-year-old Warren Jackson Jr. in January 2017 at 55th and Paseo in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Hayes was sentenced to 15 years for his conviction of Voluntary Manslaugther. Hayes entered a guilty plea on May 22, 2018. A second defendant is already serving a sentence on a felony conviction related to the shooting, which took place late Jan 22, 2017 outside Paul's Liquor and Grocery near 55th and The Paseo. Video showed two men open fire on a Black Toyota Matrix. Images of the shooters prompted TIPS Hotline information and other witnesses to help police identify the defendants.
Assistant Jackson County Prosecutor Katherine Baker prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
