For Immediate Release

Oct. 18, 2018

Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker today announced that seven prominent Jackson County leaders have agreed to participate in the selection of a new executive director of Jackson County COMBAT, a more than quarter-century-old program to prevent violence, treat drug addiction and stop crime in our community.

The COMBAT nomination committee will meet on Monday Oct. 22 at 9 a.m. to interview finalists for the position. The interviews will be conducted in public at the Kauffman Foundation Conference Center. The public is invited to observe the interviews.

The COMBAT nominating committee members:

Scott Burnett, 1st District Jackson County Legislator

Alfred Jordan, 2nd District Jackson County Legislator

Stacey Daniels-Young, former COMBAT Executive Director

James Witteman, COMBAT Commission chair

Kamisha Stanton, Violence Program Coordinator for Kansas City

Jalen Anderson, 1st District At-Large Jackson County Legislator-elect

Graciela Couchonnal, Vice President of Programs, Healthcare Foundation of Greater Kansas City

In September, Baker announced that the search for a new director of Jackson County COMBAT had begun with a job posting and the announcement of a new partnership with a University of Missouri-Kansas City nonprofit leadership center. Applications were accepted until Oct. 12, 2018. Click on this link to read the job posting.

The Midwest Center for Nonprofit Leadership at UMKC's Henry W. Bloch School of Management is facilitating the process for selection of the new director.

Jackson County COMBAT strives to build a strong, safe community and reduce the dangers of illegal drugs and violent crime. First approved in 1989, the 1/4-cent COMBAT sales tax generates more than $20 million in annual revenues that are spent on a variety of county services and programs aimed at illegal drugs and reducing violent crime.
