Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced a Kansas City man has been sentenced to 18 years in prison for a fatal stabbing that took place in 2023.
Phillip R. Lacy pled guilty today to Voluntary Manslaughter and Armed Criminal Action. He was sentenced to 15 years for Voluntary Manslaughter and three years for Armed Criminal Action, for a total of 18 years in prison.
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on November 10, 2023, to 24th Street and Cypress Avenue and found the victim. He was later declared deceased at a local hospital.
Based on witness reports, the defendant was smoking methamphetamine and then engaged in an altercation with the victim in an abandoned building. During the altercation, the defendant produced a screwdriver and began stabbing the victim.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Mitchell Widener and Clayton Comley prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
