A Lee's Summit man has been charged in a shooting and kidnapping that withheld care from a victim for many hours before the defendant led police on a high-speed chase that began in Johnson County, Kan., Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Kody M. Holmes faces Assault in the 1st Degree, two counts of Kidnapping in the 1st Degree, and three counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, the defendant was involved Saturday in a fight in a Lee's Summit residence. The defendant shot one victim in the leg. Children were inside the residence at the time. The defendant threatened the victims with being shot and later drove the victims around town for hours, leaving the gunshot victim in the residence. Defendant allowed the second victim to go free in Kansas City, and officers went to the residence to discover the injured first victim. He was alive but in critical condition. Police located the defendant in a vehicle and attempted to stop him. He fled and officers used stop sticks to end the chase. The defendant was found in the vehicle with a third victim.
The defendant is in custody. More charges may be filed once a review is completed.
