A Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the October 2019 fatal shooting of Rayford E. Reed inside a residence in the area of 29th and Askew, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Eric Conaway, dob: 10/24/1983, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, police responded to the 2900 block of Askew on a shooting and officers were informed that a victim had arrived at Truman Medical Center. Witnesses told police that the victim and the suspect were arguing soon before they heard shots fired. A voicemail left on a witness’ phone detailed a disagreement that the witness stated was the victim and the suspect. The witness, the victim’s mother, stated she believes her son is begging for his life on the voicemail. A check of the defendant’s phone showed a call to the victim’s mother.
Prosecutors requested a $200,000 bond.
