A Jackson County judge has sentenced a Kansas City man to 66 years in prison after a jury convicted him in January 2023 of the murder of his girlfriend and her cousin outside the girlfriend's home in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The judge sentenced Damon Goodrich on Feb. 20, 2024, to 30 years on each conviction of Murder in the 2nd Degree and 3 years on each of two counts of Armed Criminal Action. The judge set all sentences to run consecutively for a total of 66 years. A jury convicted Goodrich of the four felony counts in a November 2023 trial.
According to court records, the defendant was accused of shooting his girlfriend and her cousin on Jan. 8, 2023. Teenage children of the female victim witnessed parts of the violence. Ring doorbell footage and surveillance cameras supported that the defendant was at or near the house during the encounter at the victim's residence.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Jamie Hunt and Shawna Quast prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
