A 18-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting on March 14 of Deron Ross near 53rd and Swope Parkway in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Bryant A. Brown, dob: 5/23/2000, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on March 14, 2019, to the 5300 block of Swope Parkway after a gunshot victim was reported in the street. He had suffered multiple wounds and later died at Research Medical Center as a result. The Medical Examiner's Office ruled the death a homicide. Witnesses told police they saw two persons, including the victim, trying to fix a vehicle on Swope Parkway. The suspect confronted them. Gunshots were fired and the victim was lying on the ground. The suspect ran away. A witness said the victim did not have a gun when he was shot. Police used video surveillance from a nearby store to locate the suspect, who told police he left Kansas City because he was scared police would think he had something to do with the homicide.
Prosecutors have requested a $250,000 bond.
