A Kansas City man has been charged in the fatal shooting on June 1, 2020, in the common area of an apartment complex on E. 13th Street in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Elijah A. Marshall, dob: 9/29/1978, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police were dispatched to the 2100 block of E. 13th Street in regard to a shooting. They found the victim, Ivory R. Harris deceased from gunshots in the common area of an apartment complex. Witnesses told police that the man who shot the victim had been going to the apartment complex and had been observed using narcotics. Recently, the victim had asked the suspect not to smoke PCP around the complex. The victim had confronted the suspect about the drug usage. When the suspect came toward the victim, the victim showed him he had a firearm. A witness overheard the suspect talking about getting a gun as well. That witness heard gunshots on the day of Harris’ murder. The witness saw the suspect running away from the scene immediately after the shooting. When the witness asked if he had just shot the victim, the suspect stated, "He shouldn’t have pulled a gun on me." Another witness told police he saw the suspect shooting and then running down an alley. A witness also told police that the suspect made threats to shoot the victim the day before the shooting.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
