A Jackson County judge has sentenced a homeless man to 22 years in prison for the New Year's Day 2016 homicide in Independence of Charles D. Younger, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The judge sentenced Darryl M. Schaeffel, dob: 7/2/1991, to 22 years in prison for the Murder 2nd Degree conviction and 20 years for Armed Criminal Action, setting the sentences to run concurrently. Schaeffel pleaded guilty in November.
According to court records, Independence police responded to 15101 E. Truman Road on a medical call and found the victim deceased inside the residence. The victim had been shot and stabbed. Spent shell casings were found nearby. Witnesses told police that the victim had been feuding with Schaeffel. The defendant told police that he shot and stabbed the victim.
