A 60-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the May 10, 2022, fatal shooting of Terylle Gorham in a parking lot near 49th and Bellefontaine in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Paul Wright, dob: 10/24/1961, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the area of 49th and Bellefontaine and found the victim in a parking lot, beneath a truck. He was suffering from multiple gunshot wounds and several spent .45 caliber shell casings were located in the area. Residents from the area told police that the defendant was the suspected shooter; he lived nearby. Witnesses told police the defendant was seen in the area with the victim; the suspect had a handgun in his waistband. Another witnesses told police that surveillance video from the residence showed the defendant go to the spot where the homicide occurs, then walk back later with what appears to be a gun in his hand. After obtaining a search warrant, police recovered a .45 caliber handgun from the glove box of a vehicle that the defendant had earlier been stopped in while he was a passenger.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000 cash only.
