A 53-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of Charles Blakey on Jan. 26, 2021 in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Curtis Harris, dob: 3/15/1967, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to the area of 29th and Indiana on a reported injury accident. At 2843 Indiana, police found a vehicle had struck a residence. The victim, Charles Blakey, inside the vehicle was deceased. He had sustained gunshot wounds to the face. The defendant told police that he and victim had been driving and purchased marijuana when they ended up in a struggle over a weapon. The defendant fired six shots at the victim, because he said he feared for his life.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $150,000 cash.
