A 32-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the August 2019 fatal shooting of Sandrina C. Khan at a Kansas City residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Michael D. Garrett, dob: 1/2/1988, faces Murder 1st Degree, Endangering the Welfare of a Child, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and three counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police responded in the afternoon of Aug. 19, 2019, to a residence and found the victim on the front stoop. She had been shot. Neighbors alerted police that a child was inside and an officer found a child in a walker moving about the room. The victim’s mother told police that the victim had a full order of protection against the defendant. Front door glass was found shattered and witnesses told police the victim and suspect had been seen arguing. Then shots were fired. Text messages between the victim and the defendant included the defendant stating on the day before the fatal encounter that "I’m gonna over kill you." Multiple domestic violence incidents have been reported involved the defendant and he has two pending criminal cases involving domestic violence.
Prosecutors requested a $200,000 bond.
