A Kansas City man has been sentenced to 24 years in prison for the January 2017 murder of Juan Marin, who was beaten to death and was later found in the 1200 block of Admiral Blvd. in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Caleb Patterson, dob: 1/21/1998, pleaded guilty on Tuesday and was sentenced to 24 years in prison for the murder conviction. Patterson also pleaded to three other counts -- Assault 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action in connection with an unrelated robbery that occurred days after the homicide. He was sentenced to 15 years on each of those two convictions. Those sentences were set to run concurrently to the 24-year sentence.
According to court records, police found Marin's body in the 1200 block of Admiral Blvd. on the morning of Jan. 16, 2017. He had suffered multiple blunt force injuries. The Medical Examiner ruled his death a homicide. On jail house recordings, Patterson described that "it started out as a simple fight, but then after, it felt good to let some anger out, you know I just couldn't stop hitting him. Patterson took another witness to the scene and showed them the victim's body and admitted killing him.
