A Kansas City, Kan., man has been charged in connection with a reported Friday rape and kidnapping of a 23-year-old woman after they met in a Westport bar, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Derek D. Donnell, dob: 1/3/1986, faces two counts of Rape or Attempted Rape 1st Degree, Kidnapping and Sodomy or Attempted Sodomy 1st Degree.*
According to court records, officers in the area of 8th and Oak Street in Kansas City heard screaming and observed a 23-year-old woman waving them down. A man was nearby. That man, later identified at Derek D. Donnell, fled on foot. Police pursued and took him into custody. The victim stated she met the defendant in Westport. She went to his car to smoke marijuana with him. Soon after she got into his vehicle, he drove and began to touch her breasts and vagina over her dress. She told him to stop but he forced her into the backseat and removed her underwear. He forced her to have sex, with his hands around her neck. She ran away. But he chased and caught her and struck her with a closed fist. He had sex with her again and he forced her to perform oral sex on him. She said she feared for her life. She escaped a second time and saw the officers. They reported she was hysterical, barefoot and covered in dirt and leaves. She was transported to a hospital for sexual assault examination. He told police he met her in a Westport bar but denied anything sexual or any wrongdoing.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $150,000.
