A 21-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with the fatal shooting of John L. Greer on Aug. 19, 2022, in the 3500 block of Wayne Avenue, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Nathaniel Carter, dob: 4/05/2021, faces Murder in the 2nd Degree, or in the alternative, Assault in the 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responded on Aug. 19, 2022, to the 3500 block of Wayne Avenue on a reported shooting. Officers found the victim, Greer, in the house. W the defendant was with a friend when the friend began to fight with the victim. The defendant fired a shot into the victim's back. As the victim ran away, the friend grabbed the gun from the defendant and fired a second shot at the victim, hitting him a second time in the back. The defendants left the residence, where the victim was later found deceased on the floor.
A co-defendant, Davon Canady, was charged in this same homicide earlier this month.
