A Kansas City man, 22, has been charged in the fatal shooting of Airrin T. Scott in the area of 80th and Troost Avenue on Jan. 4, 2019, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Gregory E. Jefferson III, dob: 12/5/1996, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, police responded to the area of 80th and Troost Avenue on a reported shooting and found the victim suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. He was transported to an area hospital, where he died. The Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide. Witnesses told police the victim was walking on Troost, when the defendant was observed to shoot him. He then ran into an apartment complex. Surveillance video of the defendant at a store shortly before the shooting provided a still image of him. Police released it to the media. Later, they took the defendant into custody. He told police, after being made aware of his Miranda Rights, that he was at 80th and Troost Avenue the night of the fatal shooting and he acknowledged that he was the person in the still photograph from surveillance video that police released to the media.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $100,000 cash.
