An Independence, MO, man has been charged in connection with a fatal shooting on Thursday at an Independence apartment complex Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Nicholas A. Camacho-Sanchez faces Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court documents, Independence Police Department officers responded on Dec. 5, 2024, to Independence Ridge apartments on reports of shots fired. Officers found the defendant in the parking lot. Officers also found the victim of a fatal shooting inside an apartment. A witness told police the defendant was one of the men who followed a van leaving the parking lot and fired shots. Video surveillance showed two figures firing at the van as it left.
Prosecutors requested a $250,000 cash bond.
An investigation continues and other charges may be possible..
