A 30-year-old Grandview man who broke into a residence early today and was shot by the resident has been charged with burglary and armed criminal action, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Monte Hill, dob: 4/11/1986, faces Burglary in the 1st Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responding to the 6100 block of East 97th Street on a reported shooting. They found the defendant outside the house with an apparent gunshot wound in the abdomen. Hill told officers that the resident of the home shot him because he broke into the residence. He said he was attempting to retrieve a handgun. Police determined that a handgun found in the front yard, near the man who lived at the home, was stolen just a few days earlier in Stuttgart, Ark. The man said he and Hill were in a struggle over the guy after Hill broke into the house. The resident shot the intruder in the stomach. He said when Hill broke into the residence Hill did not ask for any property or say anything to him.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $75,000/10 percent.
