The mother and father of a 10-week old child have been charged with Child Abuse after the child was found dead from malnutrition, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Austen M. Taub Hack, dob: 1/6/2003, and Sarah Stone, dob: 8/20/2002, each face the A felony charge of Abuse or Neglect of a Child -- Resulting in Death.*
According to court records, Independence Police Department officers were dispatched on Nov. 14, 2022, to an apartment. Officers found a 10-week-old child who was not breathing and cold. Detectives observed the child was extremely malnourished. The Medical Examiner advised that the child suffered from severe malnutrition and dehydration.
Prosecutors requested a $150,000 cash bond for each defendant.
