Two members of the Cooper County Sheriff's Office have been charged in connection with the Oct. 2023 death of an inmate in the Cooper County jail, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Robyn Pfeiffer, 29, and Rachel Atherton, 34, each face a felony charge of Involuntary Manslaughter.*
According to court record filed today, on Oct. 27, 2023, responders were dispatched to the Cooper County Jail in Boonville, MO regarding a death of a detainee within the jail. The Pettis County Sheriff's Office was asked to conduct an investigation of the death.
The Jackson County Prosecutor's Office accepted a request to be special prosecutor regarding the death of Brooke Bailey, a detainee in the Cooper County jail in October 2023. Our office has been in communication with the victim's family. We will pursue justice in this case on behalf of the victim and her family.
