A Kansas City 17-year-old, certified by Family Court to stand trial as an adult, has been charged in the fatal shootings in March 2021 of two 15-year-olds near 73rd and Norton in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Edward T. Shelton, dob: 5/17/2004, faces two counts of Murder 2nd Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched on March 20, 2021, to the scene of a double homicide in the area of 73rd and Norton in Kansas City. Both victims were 15 years old. They were identified as Dominque Nelson, 8/25/2005, and Dominik Simmons, dob: 5/2/2005. One was found at the scene, shot multiple times. The other was found the next morning, shot once in the back, nearby.
Prosecutors requested the defendant be held on a $200,000 bond.
