A Kansas City man has been charged in the weekend fatal beating of Jamie L. Abernathy in a Kansas City residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
James E. Reed, dob: 3/9/1963, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Domestic Assault 1st Degree.*
According to court records, Kansas City police respoonded Sunday to the 5200 block of Franklin in Kansas City on a disturbance call. They found the 58-year-old victim in the home, unresponsive with injuries to her face and neck. And older woman in the home said the defendant hit the victim repeatedly. He told police "she shouldn't have put her hands on me..." The Medical Examiner ruled the death a homicide.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000 cash.
