For Immediate Release
Dec. 6, 2023
Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker will appear today before the Jackson County Legislature's Justice and Law Enforcement Committee to urge approval of a contribution to a national effort to relocate former Afghan prosecutors out of Afghanistan. Many are currently living in hiding. Baker supports the efforts of the Association of Prosecuting Attorneys to find the former Afghan prosecutors safe passage to the United States.
"This is expensive work while many are living in hiding," Baker stated. "But this money would not be designated for a particular person – but for the overall effort. It is imperative that we act as quickly as possible to save those who we trained as prosecutors to uphold a rule of law in Afghanistan."
The Justice and Law Enforcement Committee is scheduled to meet at 12:45 p.m. today in the Downtown Courthouse's Legislative Assembly Area
