An Independence man faces multiple felony charges for fleeing and killing another driver in a vehicular crash, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

According to court records, on Sept. 24, 2023, officers of Independence Police Department attempted to stop a red Ford 150 without a license plate. The truck failed to stop and an officer activated his emergency lights and sirens at Lee’s Summit Road and 29th Street. The truck ran a red light at Lee’s Summit Road and Truman Road where it almost struck another vehicle. The truck violated numerous traffic laws and exceeded 90 mph in a 50 mph zone. Officers terminated the chase and began slowing. Soon after, the truck collided with a blue 2014 Dodge Avenger, and the driver died in the collision.
Prosecutors requested a $300,000 bond.
