A 29-year-old Kansas City woman has been charged in connecttn with the fatal shooting Tuesday afternoon of Destiny Brooks in a park area near 11th and Prospect Avenue in Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Sabria S. Nixon, dob: 1/25/1990, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records filed today, Kansas City police officers repsonded to the area of 11th and Prospect Avenue in the afternoon on a reported shooting. they discovered the victim, Destiny Brooks, dob: 4/24/1986, in the park. She had suffered gunshot wounds. The Medical Examiner's Office later ruled her death to be a homicide. Officers discovered shell casings at the scene, near the playgound in the park. Witnesses told police that two women ran from the park after the shooting. They identified one of them as the defendant, Sabria Nixon. Police placed her and another woman on an investigative hold. Anothe witness told police he saw the defendant reach into her purse, pull out a handgun and start shooting. They saw the victim on the ground. Another witness also told police he saw a fight between the vicitm, the defendant and another woman before the defendant shot the victim. The defendant told police detetives that she was in a physical altercation with the victim. She got up on her feet and fired a handgun she had had in her purse. She confirmed she was mad when she fired the gun.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $300,000.
