.A Jackson County judge on Friday sentenced a Kansas City woman to 20 years in prison after she was convicted for severely beating two children while the children were in her care in a Kansas City residence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
In March, a Jackson County jury convicted Nancy Russell, dob: 12/1/1982, of four Class B felonies of Domestic Assault 1st Degree and four counts of Armed Criminal Action. On Friday, she was sentenced to a total of 20 years in prison.
According to court records, in October 2017, police in Kansas City were alerted by Arkansas police of possible child abuse. A family member had come forward to say that one of the children had been abused at a home in Kansas City in the area of 53rd and Hardesty. The child was reportedly walking with a limp and had gashes on the head. Forensic interviews in Arkansas disclosed the defendant struck the child with a cord and metal pipe.
