A Kansas City man faces a manslaughter charge for the fatal shooting on May 20, 2023, in the parking lot of a Kansas City apartment complex, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Mikell R. Grigsby, dob: 11/14/2000, faces Voluntary Manslaugther and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police on May 20, 2023, responded to an outside disturbance with persons fighting in the area of the 8600 block of Drury Avenue. A calling party reported gunfire and hearing a man say, "I'm going to shoot." Witnesses confirmed two females were fighting. Knives were involved. And the victim was armed with a firearm, as well as the defendant. Video surveillance showed that when the victim panned his weapon toward one of the females and appeared to lower the weapon, the defendant fired and hit the victim.
