A 27-year-old Kansas City man has been charged in connection with firing shots at a vehicle in a parking lot in the Westport area of Kansas City about 2 a.m. Sunday morning, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Isaiah B. Staples, dob: 9/5/1993, faces Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm.*
According to court records, Kansas City police officers working in on-duty and off-duty capacity reported gun shots in the area of Westport Road and Mill Street about 2 am on Sept. 13, 2020. Apparently no one was hit by the shots, according to a KCPD check of area hospitals. Officers observed the defendant in possession of a firearm and shooting at individuals in the parking lot. Defendant was observed running from the parking lot where the shooting occurred. He was taken into custody by police officers who located a handgun in a trash can nearby.
Prosecutors requested a a cash bond only of $75,000.
