A Blue Springs man has been charged in the fatal shooting of Joshua McDaniel on Wednesday at a Blue Springs motel, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Marvin M. Belk, dob: 9/7/1973, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Blue Springs police responded Wednesday evening to a motel in Blue Springs and were flagged down by the defendant who said he was the person they were looking for. Officers recovered a handgun from his waistband. He told police that he had been alerted that his son had been threatened in the parking lot. He went to the victim's room and confronted him. The victim stated, the defendant said, that you brought a gun. The defendant said he pulled out the gun and shot the victim. The defendant told police that after he shot the victim he realized he had made a mistake. He went back and hugged his wife, then he surrendered to police.
