An Independence man, currently in federal custody, has been charged in connection with the March 3, 2019 fatal shooting of Derick White, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Brandon L. Hill, dob: 2/13/1988, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, police were dispatched to the 6700 block of Walrond on the morning of April 1, 2019, and found the the victim deceased in a vehicle. He had suffered from gunshot wounds. DNA taken from the vehicle’s door handle was later matched to Hill. The defendant was arrested, police detectives discovered, on March 31, 2019 for robbery. He had three firearms including a 9 mm handgun that police later determined had the defendant’s DNA on it. The bullet found in the victim was determined to have been fired by that same handgun. The defendant, who fled when officers attempted to arrest him, has been in federal custody.
Prosecutors requested a $250,000 cash bond.
