A Jackson County jury on Friday afternoon convicted a Kansas City man, 28, of the July 16, 2022, fatal shooting of Marvin Yancey as the victim was driving his vehicle on Blue Ridge Boulevard, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Charles Miller Jr., dob: 04/15/1995, was convicted of Murder 2nd Degree, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and two counts of Armed Criminal Action. Miller will be sentenced on April 30.
According to court records, police were dispatched July 16, 2022, to the area of 83rd and Blue Ridge Boulevard in Kansas City on the report of shots being fired. But they found no crime scene. Later police were dispatched to 8200 Blue Ridge Boulevard regarding an injury accident. Officers found the victim who had been shot. Detectives used video from city cameras to identify a suspect vehicle. That helped detectives determine the vehicle had a GPS tracker that led police to a witness who was with the defendant the night of the shooting. She said he had a weapon while he driving the night of the shooting. A shell casing taken from the vehicle he was driving that night matched the caliber of rounds recovered from a rifle found in the vehicle. In addition, a spent bullet that was collected from the victim was determined to have been fired by that rifle.
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys Lauren Whiston and Caitlin Brock prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
