A Kansas City woman who last Thursday evening entered another woman's vehicle and drove off with a 1-year-old child in the back seat, has been charged with kidnapping and other felony charges, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Trenise L Reid faces Child Kidnapping, a Class A felony, as well as Vehicle Hijacking and Endangering the Welfare of a Child.*
According to court records, the defendant took the victim’s vehicle with a 1-year-old child in the back seat at approximately 8:00 pm, as the victim's vehicle was outside an area school. The victim had a one-year-old child in the backseat of the vehicle when it was taken by the defendant. Police in Lee's Summit found the stolen vehicle with the child inside at 9:41 pm; it was stopped in the middle of a road. Police soon after initiated an Operation 100 to take the defendant into custody. She barricaded herself inside a restaurant.
