Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced felony charges in two separate nonfatal shootings that occurred over the weekend.
Unique A. Cushon faces 1st Degree Assault, two counts of Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Use of a Weapon. *
According to court records, Kansas City police were dispatched to a business in south Kansas City on Sept. 28 and located a victim who was shot in the chest. He was transported to the hospital in critical condition.
While on scene, Raytown police advised they located a shooting victim, later identified as the defendant, who was shot in the head and back and was transported to the hospital.
Based on multiple witness reports, the defendant left the business and tried to come back in. The victim, who was working security, told him that if he came back in, he would have to pay. The defendant started arguing with the victim. Another male went and retrieved a firearm from a vehicle and handed it to the defendant who fired a shot into the air and then pointed the firearm at the victim and everyone else inside the business.
The victim, in self-defense of himself and others, pulled his firearm and fired one round at the defendant. The victim realized he was shot and ran inside for help.
Surveillance footage captured the argument between the victim and the defendant and an unknown male taking a firearm from his waistband and handing it to someone. Shortly afterward, the crowd started ducking and the victim returned fire.
The defendant is being held on a $75,000 / 10% bond.
Nathan Roscoe faces 1st Degree Assault, Armed Criminal Action, and Unlawful Possession of a Firearm. *
According to court records, the Jackson County Sheriff’s Office responded to a residence on Sept. 27 regarding shots fired and located the victim who was alert and conscious. The victim had an obvious wound on his head and was transported to a nearby hospital where he was treated for a gunshot wound to the head.
Based on witness reports, the defendant was identified as the shooter and was still in the residence before complying with the deputies’ orders and being taken into custody.
The defendant is being held on a $50,000 / 10% bond.
*Charges are only accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or pleads guilty.
