A Jackson County judge on Friday sentenced a Kansas City man to 25 years in prison for the fatal shooting in August 2022 of a 17-year-old victim, Johan Sarmiento-Peralta, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Alexis Menjivar, dob; 6/14/2004, was sentenced to 25 years. The defendant pleaded guilty to Murder in the 2nd Degree in December 2023.
According to court records, on Aug. 4, 2022, the victim with friends went to watch a soccer game at 9th and Van Brunt. The victim had just turned 17. Other men confronted the victim about wearing a shirt that they believed had a symbol related to a rival gang. One fired a fatal shot at the victim
Assistant Prosecuting Attorneys John Gromowsky and Hannah Bedford prosecuted the case on behalf of the state of Missouri.
Charges are pending against a co-defendant.
