A Kansas City man, who already has been convicted of assaulting an officer, is charged in assault of two officers and store clerk on Friday, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Cecil E. Taylor, dob: 2/5/1973, faces three counts of Assault 3rd Degree, Resisting Arrest, Property Damage 1st Degree and Trespass 1st Degree.*
According to court records, officers responded Friday morning to a store near 15th and The Paseo on a reported disturbance. A clerk there stated he had asked a man to leave, but he returned and punched him in the face, smashed his phone and fled. He was treated at a hospital for the punch. Police found the suspect near Interstate 70 and The Paseo. When officer attempted to take him into custody he hit the first with a closed fist After they attempted to spray and taser him, the suspect punched a second officer. He continued to hit and kick at the officers until they and finally cuffed him. Taylor has a previous convict for 1st Degree Assault on Law Enforcement and he also had a warrant for resisting arrest.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $75,000.
