A 27-year-old Sugar Creek man has been charged with driving while intoxicated and causing a vehicular accident involving an Independence police officer, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.

According to court records filed today, Independence police responded to a vehicular collision on Truman Road near Swope Drive about 10 minutes before 8 a.m. today. An investigation of the collision found that the defendant's truck turned in front of an Independence officer on a motorcycle. The defendant was tested and found to have an elevated level of alcohol. The officer suffered a hip injury and road rash on other parts of his body.
Prosecutors requested a $30,000 bond.
