A 24-year-old Kansas City, Kan., man has been charged in connection with the June 30, 2018, fatal shooting of Stephanie C. Davis, who was killed inisde a vehicle found near 9th and Chestnut, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Gari A. Mansaw, dob: 5/11/1994, faces Murder 2nd Degree, Assault 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Kansas City Police Department officers responded shortly before 5 a.m. on June 30, 2018, to the area of 9th and Chestnut in Kansas City on a reported victim in the street. He told police he had been beaten with a brick. Police also found in the front passenger seat of a vehicle a second victim, later identified as Stephanie C. Davis. He had been fatally shot. A review of her cell phone showed she had been in frequent contact with a persons listed as Gary W and a phone number linked to the defendant. Police cameras also revealed a vehicle registered to the defendant in the area of the homicide not long before the residents in the area of the shooting reported hearing shots. The assault victim told police that he drove the homicide victim to the scene of the shooting so she could meet an individual named "Gary." The victim identified the defendant as the man who shot him. The defendant was taken into custody on Wednesday, July 11, 2018.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $250,000.
