A Kansas City North man faces multiple felony charges after he was charged in a shooting Saturday in the Northeast area of Kansas City, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Abdisalaan H. Mohamud faces Assault in the 1st Degree, Armed Criminal Action, Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Resisting a Lawful Stop.*
According to court record filed today, Kansas City Police Department officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of Independence Avenue on a reported shooting. Officers found a victim near 9th and Woodland Avenue who had been shot when a red van pulled up next to the victim's vehicle, leaned out of the window with a rifle and began firing in the victim's vehicle. The victim suffered multiple gunshot wounds. Witnesses helped the officers located the truck. Officers attempted a traffic stop but the vehicle's driver fled. Officers chased the vehicle at high speeds until the suspect crashed his vehicle at Truman Road and Van Brunt Blvd. The suspect was taken into custody.
The defendant is being held on a $200,000 bond.
