A Kansas City man, 24, has been charged in fatal New Year's Day shooting in Independence of Christopher Wright, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Daqunne E. Green, dob: 06/25/1994, faces Murder 2nd Degree Unlawful Use of a Weapon and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records filed today, Independence Police were dispatched New Years Day to the Short Stop convenience store on US 40 Highway on reports of shots being fired and a victim inside ths store. Officers found the victim, Chris Wright, with a gunshot wound. Emergency personnel pronounced him deceased. Video showed the defendant entering the passenger side of Wrigth's vehicle in the store parking lot. Then a struggle ensued and the defendant exited the vehicle holding a handgun. The vehicle reversed out of a parking space and the defendant fires several shots into the victim's vehicle. The defendant then fled from the scene in his vehicle and the victim walked into the store where he later is pronounced deceased..
