An Independence teenager has been certified to face charges as an adult for the robbery and assault in June of a woman at the Bingham-Waggoner Estate in Independence, Jackson Count Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Selvin Cruz, dob: 8/19/2002, faces Robbery 1st Degree, Assault 1st Degree and two counts of Armed Criminal Action.*
According to court records, Independence police were dispatched to the Bingham-Waggoner Estate in the 300 block of N, Pacific Avenue in Independence. They encountered the victim who had suffered multiple stab wounds to face and torso. The victim stated that the defendanat approached her when she pulled into the parking lot. He demanded her car keys and stabbed her in the face. When she refused to give the car keys, he stabbed her more, she said. He drove off in her Honda vehicle, which police later spotted later that day in the area of 23rd and Cottage in Independence. The defendant initially refused to stop. Then once stopped, he fled on foot.
The defendant was certified in Family Court this week to face charges as an adult.
