A Jackson County jury has found a Kansas City man guilty of three felony counts in connection with a 2017 shooting in Independence into a vehicle, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
The jury on Thursday returned its guilty verdicts, convicting Tyrell L. Staten, dob: 4/10/1995, of Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Armed Criminal Action and Domestic Assault 1st Degree.
According to court records, Staten shot into a vehicle in the area of 10047 E. Wilson in Independence on February 14, 2017. He got out of a vehicle, holding a gun. He fired five or six times into the front of the vehicle. He heard the victim screaming as he fired.
Sentencing is scheduled for Dec. 14 at 1:30 p.m.
