An Independence man has been charged with Murder 2nd Degree in conneciton with the fatal shooting of another man during an attempted burglary of an Independence apartment, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Richard D. Saettone II, dob: 11/3/1980, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Burglary 2nd Degree.*
According to court records, the defendant participated in an attempted burglary of an apartment in the 1200 block of South Scott Avenue in Independence on Sept. 22, 2019. The resident of the apartment told police he heard a rattling from his windows and believed someone was going to come through it. He grabbed a firearm, pulled the drape back and announced he had a gun. He thought he heard someone in a mask and thought he saw a machine gun and he fired a shot, he told police. He got out of the apartment and called police. Police found a deceased man, later identified as Robert Shinneman on the floor of the apartment. A firearm was next to him and he had on a ski mask.
The defendant is currently in federal custody.
