A Nevada, Mo., man has been charged in connection with an alleged kidnapping, assault and fleeing from police in Independence, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Michael A. Porter, dob: 10/29/1975, faces two counts of Kidnapping, two counts of Domestic Assault in the 1st Degree, and Resisting Arrest.*
According to court records, early on May 6, 2016, led Independence police on a chase, often reaching high speeds, until he was taken into custody. A woman told police that she had been kidnapped by the defendant, who also threatened to kill her. At one point, the victim said she jumped from the moving vehicle and hit her head many times. At another point he also struck her.
Prosecutors have requested a bond of $100,000.
