Joshua B. Gaston, dob: 7/3/2001, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court records, Kansas City police responded to the 3900 block of Wabash Avenue in Kansas City on a reported shooting. They found the victim deceased at the scene from gunshots. A family member said the victim was selling marijuana when he was shot. He was supposed to meet a female in front of his residence, but witnesses told police a male teenager approached the victim on foot. Then they heard gunshots and saw the man run away. Police searched the victim's phone and found electronic messages between the defendant and the victim. The Kansas City Police Crime Laboratory revealed that genetic material taken from a spent shell casing at the crime scene matched to the defendant. He told police on Tuesday, when he was taken into custody, that he shot the victim but an unknown man was nearby approaching with a gun.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $150,000 cash.
