Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced charges against an Independence high school teacher for possessing child pornography.
Austin Meyer faces 11 counts of Possession of Child Pornography. *
“It is vital we protect the most vulnerable members of our community, especially children. When someone abuses their position of trust and authority, my office is committed to acting swiftly to hold them accountable,” said Prosecutor Johnson.
According to court records, Independence police were advised by school officials that 11 gigabytes of child pornography had been found on the defendant’s computer. Officers arrested the defendant, who is in custody on a 100,000 cash bond.
*Charges are only accusations, and the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until the defendant is either found guilty or pleads guilty.
