Jackson County Prosecutor Melesa Johnson today announced charges against a man in connection with a fatal shooting that also left two others injured in Independence, MO last week.
Robert L. Cordato faces 1st Degree Murder, two counts of 1st Degree Assault, 1st Degree Burglary, Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, and four counts of Armed Criminal Action. *
According to court records, Independence police were dispatched to a residence in Independence on June 12 regarding a shooting and located two victims suffering from gunshot wounds. An additional victim was found deceased in the kitchen.
Detectives determined based on witness reports that the defendant entered the residence and shot the victim in the kitchen and then shot the other two victims in a room where additional juveniles were also present.
When police arrested the defendant on June 13, he was in possession of methamphetamine. He has also been charged with Possession of a Controlled Substance.
The defendant is in custody and bond has been set at $750,000 cash only.
