A 19-year-old Independence man has been charged in the fatal shooting on Saturday of Cahoone Littlejohn in Independence convenience store, Jackson County Prosecutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Marc A. Barron, dob: 1/21/1999, faces Murder 2nd Degree and Armed Criminal Action charges.*
According to court documents filed this weekend, Independence police officers responded to a parking lot on E. 23rd Street in Independence on Saturday. They detained the suspect and found the victim, Cahoone Littlejohn, who had several gunshot wounds. He ultimately was pronounced dead at the scene. Independence officers reported that the suspect and the victim had been in a confrontration, possibly over a near vehicle collision in the parking lot. After punches were thrown, the defendant pulled out a handgun, causing the vicitm to step backwards and trip. Then shots were fired. The shooting was captured on video, and more than a dozen shots were fired.
Prosecutors requested a bond of $500,000.
