A mother of an injured Independence child now faces child-endangerment charges for failing to seek medical treatement and leavcing the child with another adult who allegedly beat the child, Jackson County Prosedcutor Jean Peters Baker announced today.
Jorden N. Schulenberg, dob: 11/16/1997, faces two counts of the felony charge of Endangering the Welfare of a Child.*
According to court documents filed today, the child was reported by Children's Mercy Hospital staff as being the victim of child abuse. Numerous bruises were obvious and the injuries were life-threatening. Carlos Alaniz, the boyfriend of the child's mother, was charged in connection with the abuse. On July 10, 2019, the child's mother, the defendant Jorden Schulenberg was quested by Independence Police Department detectives and she made inconsistent statements.
Prosecutors requested a $50,000 bond.
